Biltmore had a great first weekend of traffic at all our 2009 Parade Homes and there was one dominant theme that we all noticed - the baby boomers were out in full force and they know what they want! To make sure we are all on the same page a Baby Boomer was born between the years 1946 and 1964. The economic upturn after World War II during those years saw a tremendous increase in birth rates which brought on all the baby boomers!
Here are some fascinating stats and info from a 2008 National Association of Home Builder's study regarding Baby Boomer's:
- 55+ households now account for almost 21% of new homes purchased in the US.
- Important to build within an hour's drive of major urban areas.
- Proximity to restaurants, retail areas, golf courses and medical facilities.
- And we have learned first hand being on site that weather plays a big role in where Baby Boomers want to settle down. Although they don't seem to mind the change of seasons they want that change in temperature to not be to drastic!
